HOW IS FUEL COST CALCULATED?

ÜcretliYol doesn't estimate fuel cost with a simple "liters × price" logic; it uses a model that accounts for the vehicle's real consumption profile, route characteristics and gradient. Different methods are used for passenger vehicles and heavy-duty vehicles.

🚗 Passenger and Light Commercial Vehicles

For passenger vehicles, the calculation is based on a real vehicle catalog. Our system holds consumption data for tens of thousands of vehicle variants (make, model, year, engine, trim). This data isn't factory figures — it has been adjusted to reflect average consumption under real driving conditions.

The calculation is done in these steps:

  • Vehicle selection: You select make → model → year → engine/trim; the system takes that vehicle's city and intercity consumption values.
  • Route profile: The route is split into city, mixed and highway segments. Each segment is calculated with a consumption value suited to its speed (consumption is higher in the city, lower on the highway).
  • Gradient effect: Total climb along the route is added as extra energy; partial recovery on descents is factored in.
  • Cost: The total fuel amount is multiplied by the current fuel price in your departure province to find the cost in TRY.

🚛 Heavy-Duty Vehicles (Semi-Trailer, Truck, Multi-Axle)

Since consumption in heavy-duty vehicles varies greatly with the vehicle's load and road conditions, a physics-based model is used instead of a catalog. This model calculates the real energy needed to move the vehicle:

  • Rolling resistance: Friction from the tire-road contact caused by the weight of the vehicle and its load.
  • Air resistance: Depends on the vehicle's frontal area and speed; becomes dominant at high speed.
  • Gradient work: Extra energy needed to move the load uphill.
  • Engine efficiency: The required power is converted to liters via the engine's specific fuel consumption (BSFC).
  • Speed limit and stop-and-go: Each heavy-duty vehicle's maximum cruising speed is taken into account; stop-and-go losses in the city increase consumption.

This way, the consumption of an empty truck versus a fully loaded semi-trailer on the same route is realistically differentiated — consumption of ~30 L/100km on flat roads rises noticeably in mountainous terrain or at full load.

Why an Estimate?

The results are informational estimates. Actual consumption varies with unmeasurable factors such as driving habits, vehicle maintenance, tire pressure, traffic density, air conditioning use and weather. We use our users' real consumption feedback to continuously improve our model.
